关于 UD拉斯帕尔马斯
Well, now - you play for UD Las Palmas. That means you live on the island of Gran Canaria, a part of seven islands that form the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago which is an autonomous community in the North Atlantic Ocean. That also means that you are closer to the shores of Morocco (a 100 Km and change to the east) than you are from any point on mainland Spain.
That also means, that when you don’t play at home, in Estadio Gran Canaria, you have to travel. To cover great distances in the air, always above the Atlantic. Other than fellow Canary Island Tenerife, which is 112 Km to the west, Las Plamas’ closest La Liga rivals lie in Seville - 1,411 Km and Malaga – 1,620 Km away. If you want to pick another vacation spot – Palma de Mallorca, which also resides on an island – you’ll have to travel for 2,399 Km.
UD Las Palmas –  full name Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, S.A.D - was a very late comer to Spanish football, only in 1949. Like many Spanish football clubs, its formation was also a result of a merger between existing clubs, is this case no less then five clubs that were active in the Gran Canaria island.
Just two short years into its establishment, in time for the 1951-52 season, Las Palmas made it to the Primera Division, but held on for just one season, before being relegated. It spent two seasons in Segunda division and went back up again. In all, Las Palmas played 34 seasons of its history in La Liga and 28 seasons in Segunda division. Most recently, it was promoted to La Liga after the 2014-15 season and were relegated again before the 2018-19 season.
Something magical happened in 2016-17. UD Las Palmas was top of the La Liga after three matches. That’s right. The team has won two matches and tied once. During the rest of the way, it was able to finish 11th under coach Quique Setien, who seems to be the only coach in recent history to survive more than a season on the islands. At the same season, the club was able to somehow attract Kevin-Prince Boateng, he of the Hertha BSC, Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan and FC Schalke 04 fame, and the defender was able to provide much needed stability on defense.
The club’s most prominent player is midfielder Alberto Aquilani, who has previously played for Roma, Liverpool, Juventus, AC Milan and Fiorentina, among others.
The yellow and blue of UD Las Palmas play at 32,400-seat Estadio Gran Canaria.
