关于 Sting
Sting's voice is so unique, that it doesn't really matter what he sings, or with whom, his voice is immediately recognizable, enabling him to participate in an outrageous scale of musical styles, some of them jazz-based. Throughout his long-lasting career, Sting was unafraid to take risks, experimenting with different musical styles, opting most of the times to go with the unorthodox, unpopular choices.
Looking back on the career that spans well over 40 years, there are (at list) two unforgettable moments, both of them not entirely his, but still very much associated with him:
Sting was actually the person to open the MTV broadcasts in 1981, calling out "I want my MTV", the first line in Dire Straits's "Money for Nothing" song.
In the opening scene of the action movie "48 hours", the camera slowly following a path inside a dark building, while Sting's bass opening chords of the Police's "Roxanne" are heard. The camera settles on a prison cell, inside sits a convict, Reggie Hammond, played by Eddie Murphy. As the camera zeroes in on his face, Murphy hammers out the beginning of the song with a shout of "Roxanne".
Sting, born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner in Newcastle, England, formed the Police in 1977 with drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers. Although the band - started as a punk-rock band and ultimately broaden its musical scope - only played together for seven years, it left its mark on the music industry with five studio albums and a long list of hit singles, including: "Roxanne", "Message in a Bottle", "Every Breath You Take", "Can't Stand Losing You", "So Lonely", "Walking on the Moon", "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic". Many of the songs became top 10 hits around the world.
After dismantling of the Police in 1984, sting has embraced on a long and respectable solo career, that has seen him publish 15 studio albums, starting in "The Dream of the Blue Turtles" (1984) and ending (for now) with "The Bridge" (2021).
In all, Sting has collected 15 Grammy awards, as well as a host of other awards around the globe. He was inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Police and into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
