关于 新西兰
The points usually come early, sometimes even before a single ball was kicked, and even before the kickoff. The New Zealand All Blacks rugby union national team settles into the midfield. All eyes are on them, because everybody in the stadium know what is about to come. And then they deliver.
It’s the Haka, one of the oldest war dances in the world, originated by the Maori population of the island, the native New Zealanders, who came from Polynesia. They are all big men, mountains of men, dressed, of course, in all black, stand together, fists clinched, eyes narrowed, as if they are about to get out of their sockets, knees bent and body language threatening. And then they start to move as one, chanting their slogans. The other team stands together at a safe distance, watching, trying not to look intimidated. But they have to take it all in. Maybe they have not yet lost a point, but they are about to. Because if there is one unwritten law in international rugby, it’s that the All Blacks of New Zealand usually win.
They certainly have the statistics to back them up: The All Blacks are the winniest national rugby team of all-time, with a winning percentage of 77.21% over 566 matches played over a course of over one hundred years (1903-2017). Over all, along its long and illustrious history, New Zealand has only been beaten by six nations. Even though statistics don’t always tell the whole story, New Zealand’s are quite hard to ignore: Ever since Rugby world Cup has introduced a ranking system in 2003, the All Blacks were firmly stationed in the number one spot over 80 percent of the time, solely since 2009 until December 2017, and counting. There is almost no replacing them. Among others, they have won Rugby World Cup three times since the tournament was introduced in 1987: The first cup, and then again in 2011 and 2015. Australia and South Africa come close, with two cups each.
In addition to World Cups, New Zealand’s record at Tri-Nations (1996-2011) stands at 50 wins out of 70 matches and 10 championships and the record at Rugby Championship (2012-present) stands at 30 wins out of 33 matches and five titles.
Rugby in New Zealand was originated in 1888 when a Maori native rugby union team went on an international tour. The team had great success and established itself as superior to others. Four years later, in 1892, the New Zealand Rugby Football Union was formed, later to become New Zealand Rugby Union. In 1905, the team’s uniform was changed to an all-black and a legacy was established.
Over the years many notable players have played for the All Black, 15 of them has been inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame. Maybe the most recognizable player of all time is the late Jonah Lomu, the true global modern rugby superstar. Lomu played 63 times for New Zealand, in which the team won 44 times, and had 137 tries and scored 185 points. In his introduction to the Hall of Fame he was recognized for leaving an indelible mark on Rugby World Cup for moments of magic, inspiration or feats.
