关于 新奥尔良圣徒
The New Orleans Saints based in New Orleans, Louisiana, compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league's National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The name "Saints" links with All Saints Day (November 1st, the day after Halloween) which links with the large number of Catholics in the New Orleans area. Another link is the spiritual "When the Saints Go Marching In," also with strong New Orleans associations and frequently sung by fans at games.
It took the Saints a long time after their foundation in 1967 to achieve any kind of success. Twenty years later in 1987 saw a finish of 12–3 (their first-ever winning season) which brought about their qualification for the NFL playoffs for the first time, but that ended with lost to the Minnesota Vikings 44–10. Following that, the 1988 season ended 10–6 . It took another twelve years for the initial victory in the play-offs when the Saints defeated the St. Louis Rams 31–28.
In 2005, the disaster that was Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans with a dreadful ferocity. The Superdome was used as an emergency temporary shelter for residents whose homes had been wrecked or destroyed completely. The stadium itself was badly damaged with the loss of many of its facilities. Consequently many “home” games were played in opposing teams’ venues. It took a sum of around $185 million to get the Superdome repaired and renovated in time for the 2006 season. The New Orleans Saints' first post-Katrina home game was an emotionally charged Monday Night Football game versus their division rival, the Atlanta Falcons. In the playoffs the Saints, with a new head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees, defeated the Falcons 23–3, and went on to achieve the second playoff win in franchise history.
The 2009 season saw the Saints put all the bad news behind them because after winning 13 games, a record for their franchise, they qualified for Super Bowl XLIV where they defeated Indianapolis Colts 31–17. This to date is their only Super Bowl championship and their only appearance and they one of relatively few sides who have won the Super Bowl the only time they participated.
Looking at a few star names, let’s start with Drew Brees who signed with the. Saints in 2006 where he met immediate success, earning eight trips to the Pro Bowl and leading the Saints to their first Super Bowl. Since joining the Saints, he has led all NFL quarterbacks in touchdowns, passing yards and 300-yard games.
Line backer Rickey Jackson played thirteen seasons for the Saints, during which he only missed two games – and that due to a motor accident. He was a member of the Saints' famed "Dome Patrol", a four-man line backing corps named by the NFL Network as the best in NFL history.
Offensive tackle Willie Roaf played nine seasons for the Saints during which he was named to seven Pro Bowls, and was selected both for the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team and the 2000s All-Decade Team, making him the most awarded player in Saints history.
Running back Deuce McAllister played for the Saints 2001-2009 ending an injury-plagued eight-year career in which he rewrote the New Orleans Saints' rushing records. At 6-foot-1, 230 pounds, he was a punishing runner who could move piles. He also possessed the agility to make tacklers miss in the open field.
