关于 布伦特福德(小蜜蜂)
The Bees are looking for the future and those are exciting times for Brentford Footbal Club. At the beginning of 2018, the club has introduced a new, modern crest, that has replaced the old and out of date one, that has been in place since 1993. Hand in hand, construction has started on a new, state of the art stadium, that will go together with urban development of the surrounding area.
It has been 70 years since Brentford has been to England’s First Division (now days the Premier League). The club was founded in 1889 in the town of Brentford, Middlesex, part of Greater London, by members of a rowing and cricket club, that wanted to establish a new football team. As proper to the English ways, the decisive meeting took place in a pub. By the turn of the century, the club has managed to get promoted to the First Division, where he stayed for 11 straight seasons. By 1904, the club moved into Griffin Park, an 12,763-seat stadium, its home ever since.
The 1930’s were the golden age for Brentford, even though it lasted a relatively short while. The team went back for the First Division in 1935-36 and managed to finish the season at 5th place, its highest ever position. Most of the players returned to action in 1946-47, the first season after a seven-year cancellation of league play during World War II, but yesterday’s heroes were now an aging bunch of players, who had difficulties carrying the burden. By the end of the season, Brentford was back to the Second Division. The decades to come were hard on the club, both professionally and financially, and it was relegated to Third Division.
It took 40 years for a revival process to begin, as the club was able to get promoted to the Second Division for the first time since the 1950’s. Again, financial and professional crisis followed, until a miracle happened in 2001-02: Under manager Steve Coppell, Brentford reached the last match of the season in first place, which ensured an automatic promotion to the newly established Premier League. Yet it couldn’t beat Reading at home. It went to the playoffs but lost to Stoke City. In accordance with tradition, the club was relegated to Third Division. In 2013-14, Brentford was back to the Championship.
Ken Coote is the club’s all-time appearance leader, with 599 matches between 1949-1963. Jim Towers is the top goal scorer, with 163 goals scored in 282 appearances between 1954-1961.
And now Brentford awaits anxiously for the completion of work on Brentford Community Stadium, a 17,250-capacity state of the art stadium, which should be ready during the 2019/20 season. Good times are indeed ahead.
