Sporting Lisbon's coach Ruben Amorim have become one of the hottest coaching commodities in Europe during the last few seasons and his name was associated with nearly every major coaching vacancies across the continent's major leagues. But at least for the 2024-25 season, Amorim will remain in Lisbon.
After Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonson have ruled himself out of the Liverpool job, Amorim became the primary target. There were also talks about him taking the Chelsea job. However, before the 2023-24 was over, the young coach was spotted in London, having had discussions with West Ham United.
Amorim later apologized and pledged his loyalty to Sporting Lisbon. But his name is sure to be called again once the coming season will advance to its later stages.
To no avail. Amorim has taken a defeated Sporting side, that haven't won the Portuguese Primeira Liga in 19 years and clearly feeling inferiority complex toward the mighty Porto and Benfica, and led it to the title in his first season in charge, 2020-21. He repeated the achievement in 2023-24, while having his side play a modern, complex, attacking brand of football.

The player with the most appearances for Sporting Clube de Portugal is Hilario de Conceicao who made 471 appearances for the club between 1958 and 1973. 2nd on the list is Joao Azevedo with 424 appearances.
Sporting’s biggest ever win was their 21-0 victory over Mindelense in the Portuguese Cup in 1970 while their biggest league win was 14-0 against Leca in the 1941-42 season.
